OpenAI has launched Sora 2, the next generation of its AI video generation model, and the results are nothing short of breathtaking.
What's New in Sora 2
Sora 2 can generate up to 60 seconds of 4K video from a single text prompt. The quality is so high that in blind tests, 68% of viewers couldn't distinguish Sora-generated videos from real footage.
The model handles complex physics simulations, consistent character motion, and even lip-syncs dialogue with impressive accuracy. I generated a video of a chef cooking a meal, and the knife movements, ingredient transformations, and steam patterns were all physically accurate.
Pricing and Access
Sora 2 is available through OpenAI's API at $0.10 per second of generated video. ChatGPT Pro subscribers get 100 free seconds per month. There's also a waitlist for a consumer-facing app.
Creative Applications
Filmmakers are already using Sora 2 for storyboarding and concept visualization. Marketing agencies are creating ad campaigns at a fraction of traditional costs. And educators are generating custom video content for any topic imaginable.
The Competition
Google's Veo 3 and Runway's Gen-4 are the main competitors. While both are impressive, Sora 2 leads in consistency, motion quality, and overall realism. The AI video market is expected to reach $10 billion by 2027.
